SECOND MEDICAL OPINION PROGRAM

This program aims to offer 1 free Second Medical Opinion consultation to patients who wish to clarify doubts about diagnosis and treatment.


WHO IS THE “SECOND MEDICAL OPINION” PROGRAM INTENDED FOR?

To SUS (Brazilian Unified Health System) patients registered at ABRALE in a situation of social vulnerability.


WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR A PATIENT TO BE REGISTERED IN THE PROGRAM?

Cases are evaluated individually, and the need for a second evaluation is identified, for reasons such as:

  • Being recently diagnosed
  • eing a patient for whom there are no longer any therapeutic options available from the SUS and is being, or has been, referred to Palliative Care.
  • Found in conflicting situation with one’s doctor
  • A patient with difficulties in understanding one’s diagnosis and the type of treatment that was recommended.

ABRALE – Brazilian Lymphoma and Leukemia Association – was founded in 2002 with the mission of offering help and mobilizing partners so that all people with blood cancer in Brazil have access to the best treatment.
